Mas'Cohones

About this trail

For those who want a stunning view of Windwardside (and to wander through some incredible plant diversity), but who don’t want to undertake the climb up Mt. Scenery, Mas’Cohones is the answer. Call it the perfect mini-Mount Scenery if you like, as this trail winds up Mas’Cohones Hill, a smaller peak near the enigmatic main attraction. Just minutes into the hike, you’re greeted with a view of the village of Windwardside in the foreground and a brilliant seascape just beyond. Admire the massive philodendron (Philodendron giganteum), often called elephant ear plants, scattered among large boulders on the trail.

In addition to being less strenuous than the Mount Scenery Trail, Mas’Cohones often provides clearer, sunnier views, so don’t feel guilty treating yourself to a shorter hike if Mount Scenery is cloudy. It’s also an excellent first hike on the island if you’re just arrived and want a beautiful but fairly mellow first day.

Ask a Local

Question: What’s the view from the top of Mount Scenery like?

Answer: It's worth every step to the top. Every step. You cannot plan the moment when you reach the top. The whole thing is having the patience to sit there and wait for the clouds to open the curtains. It's magical.
