Saba Archaeological and Heritage Center

About

Let historical artifacts from the island take you back in time at the Saba Heritage Center, the museum of the Saba Archaeological Center (which has offices in the same building). In addition to serving as a museum, the Saba Heritage Center is a community space for public presentations on the history and cultural heritage of the island, weekly activities for children, and workshops on photography, tree identification, archaeological diggings, and more.

SABARC also works to encourage local youth-engagement in archaeological activities on the island, and produces archaeological reports and publications for the benefit of Saba, and beyond. This is a must-see for history buffs, and on your way in or out, be sure to take in the colorful mural that details some of the landmark events in Saba’s history, such as the first known humans’ arrival on the island.

Ask an Expert

Question: What drew you to archaeology in the first place?

Answer: As a child, I loved archaeology. Archaeology — it's kind of funny, because people think of it as dusty old artifacts and things like that. But in fact, archaeology is the way to make people aware of where they came from, in such a way that they can form a basis of understanding themselves now.
